The Chinese - Mandarin and Cantonese Language At Cornell
The Department of Asian Studies at Cornell offers courses in both Mandarin and Cantonese dialects of Chinese.
In the Mandarin program, instruction is provided in the regular 4-year language format and in an intensive summer program.
The regular Mandarin language program provides instruction from beginning to advanced. The program also offers a separate track for students of Chinese heritage.
The IMPAC (Intensive Mandarin Program At Cornell), formerly a part of the FALCON Program, is run by Cornellís Department of Asian Studies. IMPAC provides beginning and intermediate Mandarin students with the equivalent of one full year of college Chinese instruction in nine weeks of intensive study.
Both heritage and non-heritage students in Cantonese are welcome to take the Cantonese courses. There are three years of study for non-heritage learners. The years for heritage learners depend on the studentsí existing Cantonese level.
